All-State Concert

Thank you for a wonderful concert. Together with 1100 other high schools students from across the state our talented BVHS musicians performed at the All-State concert in the Arena last night.

Frog and Toad - Tickets on sale now

Are you ready for 'A Year in the Life of Frog and Toad'? The high school will perform this musical November 13-16. Tickets are on sale now! Call the box office at 582-8039. Adults are $5, students $3. Bring the whole family. It will be a fantastic show! See you there!

South Dakota All-State Orchestra

Congratulation to the students that where selected into the South Dakota All State Orchestra. Bri King, Anna Sorenson, Dawson Kremlacek, Eric Hanson, Jessica Berg, Chelsey Schmeling.

You can hear them and the All-State Chorus on November 1st at 7pm at the Arena. Please check with Mr. Gullickson for tickets.

Don't forget the first Chorus concert of the school year is September 22nd at 7.00 at the PAC! We are excited to hear the familiar and new voices!

SD All-State Chorus

Congratulations to the students representing Brandon Valley at the South Dakota All-State Chorus

The 61st South Dakota All-State Chorus & Orchestra will be held October 31 and November 1 at the Sioux Falls Arena. Approximately 1100 singers and instrumentalists will join in rehearsal and concert over the two days.

Brandon Valley High School will be represented in the chorus with four quartets of singers: sopranos Lydia Eichelberg (12), Alli Fatone (12), Lexi Hokenstad (10), Stephanie Podhradsky (12); altos Alex Hillestad (12), Kirsten Polasky (11), Summer Rogers (12), Katie Wright (11); tenors Isaiah Dietz (11), Riley Duncanson (12), Johnny Hoffmann (10), Kevin Huizenga (12); and basses Robert Berndt (12), Mason Blue (10), Brad Gingles (11), Eli Suchowacky (12).

Alex Hillestad, Robert Berndt, and Kevin Huizenga are All-Staters for the third year. This is the second year at All-State for Hokenstad, Rogers, Wright, and Gingles. The sixteen singers are members of the BVHS Concert Choir, directed by Terry Gullickson.

This year’s guest conductor for the All-State Chorus is Dr. Andre J. Thomas, director of choral activities at Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida.

The Grand Finale Concert of the 61st All-State Chorus & Orchestra will be broadcast live from the Sioux Falls Arena on South Dakota Public Television, November 1, 7:00 pm.

re:Voiced Tickets on Sale

Ticket for the re:Voiced a cappella concert on October 2nd are going on sale today! Adults are $10, students $5. At the door the tickets will be $12 and $7. This is an event you don't want to miss. Congratulations to Katie Wright, Kevin Huizenga, and Eli Suchowacky! These 3 students are going to represent BVHS at the SD Honors Choir this summer. The Fine Arts Booster Club is proud to be able to sponsor half of the entry fee ($150 each) for these talented students.

CALENDAR CHANGE-- Due to a conflict with BV Bands and All-State Jazz Band, SPRING CONCERT DATES for BVHS choirs and bands have been SWITCHED...
Band concert will be MONDAY MAY 5; Choir concert will be THURSDAY MAY 8. Both concerts at 7:30 pm, PAC.

The reception for the senior art show was a great success. Parents, family and students came to enjoy a huge variety of art work. Our talented students exhibited many different styles and techniques in their work. Thank you and good luck, we will miss your talent!

Senior Art Show

Optimist Club District Oratorical Contest

Congrats to more BVHS speech/interp kids! Evan Wieser placed first in the boys division at the Optimist Club District Oratorical Contest in Sioux Falls on Saturday. Annika Hindbjorgen placed 2nd in the girls division. Evan moves on to the next level of the contest in Fargo in May with a chance at a $2500 scholarship. Good luck Evan!

Thursday night performance cancelled

Due to a winter storm warning the musical performance for tonight, Thursday 04/03, has been cancelled. There will be another performance on Saturday at 3pm instead. If you can't make the Saturday show you can call the box office to give the tickets back.
We are all disappointed but safety first!

State One-Act Play festival: A huge success

CONGRATULATIONS!  The BVHS One-Act production of The Shiftless Drifter won a superior at the State One-Act Play Festival held this past weekend at BVHS.  This is the highest award that a play can earn at the festival.  Kudos to directors Melanie Sittig and Mark Griebel and their cast and crew!  Earning superiors for their individual acting performances were Jeff Lush (12), Bailey Quanbeck (12), Paige Wright (12), Chandler McGrath (11) and Jessica Sadler (10)

BVHS Art Students win Augustana College Art Show

CONGRATULATIONS:  The Augustana College Art Department invited over ten area schools to participate in their annual high school art show.   Each school was only allowed to submit three entries per instructor.  BVHS Art students took the top three prizes.   Alexa Kruse won second place, Alana Callahan won first place, and Breanne Kline won the grand prize an $8000 scholarship to Augustana College. Kudos to their instructor and mentor Chad Nelson.

Help wanted - be an Usher and watch the shows

Thanks for all of you that attended the meeting and happily agreed to help with various upcoming events. We need some more ushers for the State One-Act Play festival on February 6-8. It's and easy task, you have to be by the doors of the PAC before and after the show. Half of the usher's can watch the performances, so if you take turns you can catch some great shows! Our next Fine Arts Booster Meeting is on Tuesday, January 14th at 5.30 pm at the community room at the High School. Here are some of our topics:

• We are going to start planning for the upcoming High school musical Willy Wonka. We will need help with selling ads for the Playbill. 
• We are in the process of redesigning our website to be up to date and informative. We need help in filling some of the pages with "life". 
• Brandon Valley High School is hosting the State On-Act-Play Festival on February 6th to 8th. Parents are needed to be ushers and help with providing food and snacks for the judges.
